A Compulsion to Overeat

Compulsive overeating disorder is also called binge eating. Like all disorders it has its foundation in the psychology of the patient. A patient has an uncontrollable craving to eat in this form of disorder. They purge with laxatives and diuretics to get rid of the excess food after their eating binge.

Compulsive overeating disorder is harmful for the health of the patient. The patient does not have a healthy appetite but a craving to eat. As a result of satisfying the craving the patient suffers fatigue, high blood pressure, nausea and abnormal weight gain. 2% of adults in U.S. or 4 million Americans suffer from this disorder. Compulsive overeating disorder is a result of depression and low self esteem. Patients were regarded as lazy gluttons before the disorder received medical attention. Today, however, medical help is available through behavioral therapy, diet and medication for the effective treatment of the disorder.
