Former Spice Girl Speaks out on ED

Former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell has just written a book detailing her struggles with binge eating and bulimia since her childhood. Geri admitted in the past that she has always been insecure about her looks and body shape and this consciousness about her weight and body issues forced her to survive on binge eating.

Talking about her bulimic past, Halliwell said: “In the past, I always had my hang-ups, believing I wasn’t pretty enough, or a good enough singer, or thin enough.” Geri says being in the spotlight and in front of cameras and in the public eye at all times took its toll on her. “There’s always going to be that pressure when you’re in front of the camera. When you’re famous it’s just an extreme version of reality and there’s a pressure to look a certain way”.

Embarking on a solo career in 1999, she wanted to make sure she was in perfect shape and had the best body to go along with her new image. Her piece of advice for those who are struggling - "I can honestly tell you from personal experience, that worrying about an eating disorder really can get you down. There's nothing to be ashamed about. You'll be amazed at the difference it'll make to your whole life if you tell someone you trust. There are lots of people who want to help and you really CAN'T fight this one on your own. It might be a hard decision to make, to tell people and to seek help but, trust me it's nowhere as hard as trying to deal with it on your own."

After years of being on a strict diet, Geri seems to have overcome her body issues and says she is enjoying food and eating normally.
“I have a history of eating disorders but, as a mother, you think of being an example to your child. I’m so much more balanced than I was.”
