Depressing Thoughts and Eating Disorders

Depression is found to be the root cause for all eating disorders. When depression and eating disorders work together they rob the patient of self esteem and the possibility of leading a normal life. Depression causes severe despair in patients and they lose interest in healthy pursuits and fall victim to eating disorders.

Experts believe that when an eating disorder is detected, the patient must also be treated for depression. Depression leads to self loathing in patients and the outlet of this loathing is by loathing the proportions of their body. Eating disorders are usually detected in depressed adolescents. When eating disorders were not regarded as conditions that require treatment, parents resorted to a blame, shame and guilt routine which only served to make the problem worse in their children. Behavioral therapy which is normally used to treat depression is regarded as the most effective treatment for patients with eating disorders.
