Does body weight affect a man’s fertility?

Infertility is a problem that forces people to question every aspect of their lifestyle? One question that bothers many infertile couples is whether a man’s body weight has any affects on his fertility. The answer is, yes it does! Obesity or being overweight is linked to low sperm count and poor quality sperm. The reason cited by medical experts is, that excessive fat around the testicles raises the temperature in this area. This increase in temperature affects sperm count and quality. A recent research study in fact suggests that being overweight increases the chance of infertility by 10%! Being underweight is also reported to affect a man’s hormonal balance and his sperm count. The lesser the sperm count the more are one’s chances of being infertile. Making healthy lifestyle choices is therefore extremely important not just for a man’s health but also for his fertility.
