Eating Disorder is an Addiction

Scientific researches have identified chemicals which are secreted by the brain in response to the presence or desire for certain foods such as chocolate or cheese. This has unknowingly fueled people's addiction to unhealthy foods of which they may have innocently entered into. This addiction to unhealthy food is characterized by a person giving in to the temptation of eating something which they know is very much unhealthy for them.

This addiction is quite complex in the sense that it feeds a sight and smell-based addiction fueled by the release of the neurotransmitter Dopamine which is linked with feelings of enjoyment. When a person sees or smells certain foods and derives satisfaction from having an extra slice of pizza or a bar of chocoloate can be indications of serious addictions to unhealthy food.

Unlike other common addictions such as alcohol and drugs, addiction to eating has not received the right attention it deserves. It has been often ignored and is diminished to just being a lack of willpower to say no.Sometimes, it is not even seen as an addiction. Ignorance of the condition has often waylaid the proper attention and solutions this type of addiction should get./

There are already more and more medical and health professionals who are starting to accept based on scientific evidence that eating disorders occupies a niche in addiction cases. Eating disorders should be treated as serious health conditions which must be given prime importance just like any other disease.
