Eating disorders and diabetes

Does diabetes have something to do with eating disorders or do eating disorders share a common thread with diabetes? The answer lies somewhere in between, the fact is that both seem to have an effect on each other.

A person suffering from diabetes has to exercise strict control on his/her diet, apart from that insulin doses can also lead to weight gain, both these factors may lead to an eating disorder in diabetics.

Obesity is said to be one of the factors which increases the risk of diabetes. A person, who suffers from an eating disorder like food addiction, is bound to be obese and is therefore at a greater risk of becoming diabetic. Moreover, a person suffering from both diabetes and an eating disorder may develop kidney and heart complications, in extreme cases a combination of two diseases can turn lethal.
