Food Addiction Related to Emotional Instability

We eat because it is a basic need. But there are people who eat for a variety of many reasons. The compulsive need to eat can be triggered by stress, irritation and frustration. Worry, boredom or overwork can also elicit this irrational need for food. Eating and food now becomes a facade to escape from emotional turmoil and to cope with the demands of work and home.

Overeating may have been experienced one time or another by any person especially during parties and other occasions when good food is served. But when it becomes habit-forming, the problem may be a manifestation of binge eating or bulimia

The person is totally pre-occupied with food and eating as an outlet of pent-up emotions of guilt, inhibitions, and desperation to be a better person and to be accepted by family and friends. Overeating makes the person feel good inside and out.

A person who has food addiction has lost the willpower to resist the powerful temptation of food and the act of eating. It will be an uncontrollable urge that will continually haunt a person until he is able to admit that he is sick and needs professional treatment and support from family and friends.
