Harmful or just plain weird?

Eating is perhaps the most grueling activity for a toddler. Since toddlers are always on the go, it is very difficult to capture them during mealtime and glue them to their seats. It is even much harder to make them eat something, especially if they do not like the food laid out in front of them.

It is also during toddlerhood that kids develop eating habits that could either fade away as they grow up or continue until they are well into adulthood. In general, most eating habits are harmless. However, studies show that eating habits could translate into low self-esteem in the long run.

As parents, we should watch out for the eating habits of our children and try to correct them as early as possible. These habits include discomfort when eating in the presence of other people, classifying foods into good and bad and avoiding the bad ones, and making these eating habits appear as secretive as possible. If not corrected, these food rituals may become detrimental to our kids’ self-esteems.
