The best treatment for eating disorders is tender loving care. Correcting eating disorders is best achieved by loving advice which is not confrontational. Helping the patient should be done in private and gentle advice will do wonders because the patient is psychologically disturbed by his or her appearance.
Forcing the patient by using shame, blame or guilt will not help a patient with eating disorders. Help from the family combined with professional psychiatric help will cure the problem. Psychotherapy and counseling at the initial stage stages will stop the problem at an early stage. If the patient attends a support group with other sufferers, it can help immensely. Advanced stages of the disorder will create havoc in the patient’s metabolism and will require hospitalization. Treatment for the condition should begin as soon as it is detected. Postponement of treatment will make the patient susceptible to a number of related diseases.
