The parent body of all eating disorder associations in the U.S. is the National Eating Disorder Association. It is a nonprofit organization established in 2001 that helps individuals with eating disorders and their families obtain quality treatment to cure the disorder. The association was formed with the merger of The National Eating Disorder Association and the American Anorexia Bulimia Association and ANRED Anorexia Nervosa and Related Disorders Association. The association organizes a parent family and friend network for eating disorder awareness and organizes an awareness week to educate the public about the problem. The Association funds and encourages research for better methods of treatment. The website has links to local associations and specialists. The organization also has a toll free helpline to help patients get the problem treated.
