Ke$ha's mom: 'she almost died'
A few weeks after checking herself into rehab for an eating disorder, Ke$ha has been the subject of intense media scrutiny.
The singer's mom, Pebe Sebert, has shot down rumors that her daughter is also battling alcoholism in addition to bulimia. Sebert recently spoke with People magazine, opening up about her "beautiful, self-confident, brilliant daughter" being "berated and ridiculed for her looks and weight" to the point that Ke$ha almost died.
'She was really sneaky'
Sebert has recently also checked into rebab for "post-traumatic stress disorder," ABC News reports.
She claims that her daughter hid her eating disorder very well.
“She could throw up really quickly and quietly,” Sebert said. “She’d even take a bag in there so no one could see her bent over the toilet. She was really sneaky.”
It got to the point where friends and family members would follow Ke$ha into the bathroom. Sebert says the issues came to a breaking point around the holidays.
“She called me and admitted how much she’d been throwing up, and I just said, ‘Okay,’” she added. “I called some centers, and Ke$ha agreed to talk to them and liked what they said. She basically cried until we got there three days later.”
Doctors said the singer's blood pressure and sodium levels resembled those of someone who'd suffered a heart attack or stroke, Sebert said.
Searching for self-love
On Jan. 3, Ke$ha announced that she would be starting rehab, admitting that the confidence she exuded on stage was much more difficult to adopt in her real life.
“I’m a crusader for being yourself and loving yourself, but I’ve found it hard to practice,” she said in a statement.
