There is dieting and then there is heavy dieting the difference between the two could lead to an eating disorder. On a diet teens (mostly girls) watch what they eat, eat more fruits and vegetables and cut back on the junk food.

Heavy dieting takes dieting to an extreme. Restricting the amount of calories consumed per day by 1000 or less without the okay from a doctor is extreme dieting. This can often lead to an eating disorder. Many extreme dieters will become vegetarians and limit their foods to fruits and vegetables only not realizing that their young still developing bodies need protein, starches and dairy.

Heavy Dieting and Exercise

Everyone needs exercise to stay healthy. With heavy dieting extreme exercise usually plays a counter role. Therefore, the 1000 calories or less are burned off so quickly after a few weeks, the dieter’s body can go into starvation mode and the weight loss stops! The teen is then at a high risk for developing an eating disorder most likely anorexia.

Stay in Shape & Be Healthy

Eating a normal diet without sweets, junk food and high calorie foods and exercising several times a week will keep a body in good shape and healthy. In addition, to preventing an eating disorder.
