'Love Your Lines' Instagram Project Celebrates Stretch Marks
If you've ever been embarrassed or self-conscious about stretch marks, you might want to check out a new Instagram account called Love Your Lines.
Created by two anonymous moms, the project aims to celebrate stretch marks: the women are asking other females to post photos with the hashtag #LoveYourLines in order to "make a difference in the world of the female body image."
The moms' own photos of their tummies, thighs, and other stretch-marked body parts are showcased on their account.
"All women of different shapes, sizes and cultural backgrounds are encouraged to submit," the users wrote on one of their posts. "We can’t wait to see your love lines!"
A safe space
As The Gloss' Hayley Hoover writes, the idea may not seem that controversial, but many women have been taught that imperfect skin - even if it's there because of some triumph, like weight loss or childbirth - isn't beautiful.
"It can be really healing to see beautiful photos of what the world considers imperfections," Hoover said.
User responses to the project have been inspiring, and many women are voicing their appreciation.
"[Stretch marks] are not "fixable" but can be disguised," one user wrote. "I applaud US for the courage to display the miracle of the body."
Another user said, "Your body is not ruined. You've just earned your stripes."
