I have recently just up and quit binging and purging...however, I have now gained 10 pounds, and although I feel healthier and less hungry, I am miserable about the weight gain. Is this normal? What else can I expect?

Hi there, I am not sure if I

Hi there, I am not sure if I am able to answer your question on what else you can expect but after I read what you wrote I teared up as that is exactly what I am going thru right now. I have gone through many different eating dissorders and am 20 years old. I recently started getting help however its so new im still struggling with my eating. I was 115lbs last march and before my eating dissorder i was over 180lbs. Now since ive been trying to be healthy and eat again and stop purging im back up to 133lbs. This is very disscouraging to me also. I have no idea how I am going to handle this..but I know I want to be done with purging, it makes you feel just terrible. I hope to keep in touch and here how you are doing.

I am in a similar situation,

I am in a similar situation, i suffered from anorexia and dropped from 147 pounds to just under 100 pounds in 6 months. I then started getting help and started to eat a bit more 'normally', but my main prob now is that i just crave food, all the time, usually sugary sweet things which is odd because before i had an ED i never had a sweet tooth at all. but now i just have these massive episodes of binging to the extent that i wont be able to stop even if i am in physical pain. sometimes i purge after but often i cant which causes a LOT of distress, and to make up for it i carry on restricting my intake for the next few days until i feel like i can start to eat 'normal' again, then i have a random binge... the cycle goes on. the prob is, i know i need to put on weight, i am just scared that once i start i wont be able to stop because of these binges. is anyone else in the same situation? how can i get back to normal? or is the bottom line that i need to go back to my therapist?

Hello all....thank you all

Hello all....thank you all for sharing. The body issues, and adjusting to changes and weight gain is usually the hardest part of recovery, and the one that takes the longest to adjust to. It's critical to be seeing a therapist for at least a year following treatment, or the beginning of your recovery. You should have someone monitor your weight (NOT YOU!) to help keep you accountable in terms of symptoms, etc. The truth is, once you do reach the weight where your body is happy and healthy, with some time, you will begin to accept and appreciate what a healthy body can do for you, and the discomfort lessens (even disappears!). Never give up!! Jan
