I've lost 20lbs in 6 weeks and I can't seem to make myself eat more than 500 calories/day. If I do, I make myself sick. Now I'm finding myself trying to avoid social situations with food. How do I get help when I'm not classified as underweight?

annabree...based on the

annabree...based on the behaviors and facts you shared, you could be in grave danger very quickly if you don't get help. Even if you are not technically 'underweight' at this point, you are starving your body. Your brain and cells need nutrients each day. You cannot survive by allowing your body to feed on itself, which is what this sounds like.
Professionals who specialize in eating disorders should know this, and getting help is not dependent on being starved or emaciated.
Please talk to your doctor and see about meeting with a counselor or therapist to help you sort this out before it worsens. Take care.

Thanks. I have an appointment

Thanks. I have an appointment with a counselor in a couple of weeks, until then I'm really going to make an effort to work on this on my own. My roommate is going to help hold me accountable. I was only 13 the last time, and I don't really remember how I got out of it. It was much worse then, but it seems like it is going to take more effort this time. Sad part is that I'm a nurse and I should have known better than to let this get out of hand to begin with. Aside from the fact that I dealt with this before, I'm ten years older now and am a health care professional. I know exactly what this will do to me in the long term and yet I do it anyways. At least now I care enough to do something about it.

anna...this is not YOUR

anna...this is not YOUR fault! I know that you may blame yourself for various reasons, but an ED is a monster that you cannot control. The best thing is that you seek help, and accept that you need that help. Good luck....?
