I have EDNOS. Even though it's not a specific eating disorder, can I ever fully recover from it? I'm 16 and just started seeing someone a couple months ago, but I think I've had this for a couple years. Can I ever get better?

Emily, Did anyone ever

Emily,
Did anyone ever respond to you and your question?

Hi Emily: I'm glad to hear

Hi Emily:

I'm glad to hear that you have started seeing someone for your eating disorder.

EDNOS or Eating Disorder Not Otherwise Specified is just as serious as anorexia or bulimia. The only difference is in the categorization - individuals with EDNOS meet some of the criteria for a diagnosis, but not all - so their disordered eating symptoms are diagnosed instead as EDNOS.

Just like any other eating disorder, recovery from EDNOS is a lifelong journey. Give yourself some time to learn new coping skills, and to work towards recovery. It's not unusual to feel that progress is slow, but by being open to re-learning new ways of coping, adopting healthy eating habits and behaviors and accepting the support of others, you can certainly get better.

Wishing you well.

Hi Emily. I agree with Amy

Hi Emily. I agree with Amy that EDNOS is just a serious as anorexia or bulimia. You can definitely get better from it and fully recover with the right help.

I'm glad you are getting help and support in therapy. I have a facebook group for adolescents called Anabulimics - Together We Fight. Would love to have you join. It is a secret group so only those in the group can see your posts. Look up the group name and ask to join if you want. We focus on the positive and problem solving, not eating disorder behavior. Hope to see you there.
