Most of my life I knew I had a problem with food but I was proud of it. I was proud of my ability to function when other people would have been too moody or upset by the way I had to live. I say it like that because I wasn't allowed to eat breakfast at home, if I did I got yelled at, then when I came home to clean up the dishes of uneaten food from my younger siblings, i had to throw it down the toilet. Then - with dinner always so stressful - call it 'confrontation hour', who wanted to eat so I didn't mind it as much when there wasn't anything good left over for me. Food left on their plates again, I wasn't allowed to eat it in case they might want it - but then after a while I had to throw it in the dogs dish.
If you've ever read "A Child Called It" I think it might make some interesting parallels. So far I know I wasn't worthy of the same food as everyone else, I grew to love the healthier foods because thats all that was left. I know there's layers and layers and layers of this and I'm kind of afraid to find out how deep they really go.
Trying to address it in counseling never worked because I wasn't 98 pounds, I wasn't throwing up, I wasn't eating quarts of ice cream - where did I fit? No where... Typical.
